Welcome!

 

I am excited to start the new year and I am looking forward to seeing all of you in class. This site is to help you focus on what you need to do in order to be successful in my English class. Freshman, we will cover a variety of literature, with specific attention to close reading strategies. Some of the texts we will cover include:  Night, Romeo & Juliet, and Lord of the FliesWe will also spend a great deal of time writing expository, narrative, and persuasive essays in order to prepare for the MCAS exam.

 

Sophomores we willalso be focused on close reading strategies as we prepare for the MCAS exam.  The texts we will focus on include:  Antigone, The Crucible, Julius Caesar, and A Map of the WorldWe will also spend a great deal of time writing expository, narrative, and persuasive essays in order to prepare for the MCAS exam.

Juniors, we will cover a variety of literature, examining how literature is impacted by the time period it is written.  We will read, The Scarlet Letter, The Great Gatsby, and a variety of short stories. We will also spend a great deal of time on writing: expository, narrative, and literary analysis essays just to name a few.

Seniors our focus will be on how the psychological study of characters. Our focus will be analyze how various psychological problems manifest within literature and what they reveal about human nature.  Therefore we will read selections from both Hamlet and Macbeth, Ordinary People, and The Things They Carried, as well as a variety of short stories. 

All classes will be expected to write a variety of essays including: argumentative, literary analysis, and narratives.  Students will also be conducting research and a variety of group projects.

All work is expected to be handed in on time as I do NOT accept work late!

This is important to remember as it is your responsibility to be aware of what you are missing. If you are unsure of your grade or what you are missing, I encourage you to check your grade through the ASPEN online program.  I wish you all the best and remind you that I am always here after school for extra help. Parents, I look forward to working with you this year as well and I welcome any and all questions you may have. Here's to a good year!
